The African-Asian Afro-Asian Union (AFASU) awards Mr Mohamed Farouk, the renowned tourism technology expert and the head of the electronic tourism committee at the Chamber of Tourism Companies, the AFASU Golden Award for Excellence and Development in Tourism Technology and Travel for the years 2023/2024.
At a grand ceremony and following a press conference held on Wednesday evening, June 21st at one of Cairo’s exclusive hotels, Professor Mr. Mohamed Farouk, tourism technology expert and head of the electronic tourism committee at the Chamber of Tourism Companies, was awarded the AFASU Golden Award for Excellence and Development in Tourism Technology and Travel 2023/2024. This award comes as a culmination of Mohamed Farouk’s efforts in the field of tourism technology and e-tourism over the past twenty years.
Mohamed Farouk said that receiving the AFASU Golden Award for Excellence and Development in Tourism Technology and Travel 2023/2024 made him very happy. He explained that he always works on developing the tourism technology system and always seeks excellence and development. He added that this honor is a medal on his chest and dedicates this success to his young team.
The ceremony was attended by leaders from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, as well as a group of guests from African and Asian ambassadors, a large number of tourism experts and hoteliers in Egypt and Arab countries, media men in Egypt and foreign correspondents, and a number of members of the Afro-Asian Union (AFASU).
Dr. Hossam Darwish, President of the African-Asian Union (AFASU), stated that AFASU is an international union with offices and members in many Afro-Asian countries. It emerged from the Afro-Asian Peoples’ Solidarity Organization whose idea was launched at the Bandung Conference in Indonesia under the name of the Non-Aligned Movement by the three leaders Abdel Nasser, Tito and Nehru and its members are 90 African and Asian countries. It is a member of the United Nations, World Trade Organization, UNCTAD, Arab League and African Union.
The union launched this award under the auspices of its mother organization, believing in promoting a culture of excellence, improving performance, raising morale among distinguished hardworking individuals and establishing fair competition rules among different entities to elevate their performance. This is to provide young people with a role model that has disappeared these days and to seeks to enable excellence in all its forms in all sectors to be a way of life and work through which we achieve concepts of practical individual and institutional performance quality that we all aspire to.
Moreover, one of the most important goals of the award is to support creativity, excellence, innovation and leadership in tourism and travel technology.
All the objectives and standards of the award applied to Mr. Mohamed Farouk and his institution because he is one of the pioneers in tourism technology and has worked for a long time to serve his country through his chairmanship of the Electronic Tourism Committee for the Chamber of Tourism Companies. He never hesitated to share his knowledge or work in his field of specialization with all companies and did not consider himself their competitor. The award committee from the Executive Council of AFASU agreed that he deserves it and deservedly so as for being one of the pioneers in utilizing technology optimally for tourism development using all modern technology tools.

Dr. Adel Al-Musallam, CEO of the Union, added that AFASU, in a parallel track to the incentive awards for successful people, role models and youth at the level of countries around the world, has prepared AFASU Golden Awards in many sectors. It is an award presented to the same sector every two years and is an Afro-Asian international award with its laws and conditions carefully formulated. It is headed by specialized arbitration committees for competition categories and judged by internal systems and standards that ensure the achievement of creative work elements and award conditions. These awards are usually subject to follow-up and criticism by the parties concerned with the award, and we listen, correct and modify them as one of the events that concern all Afro-Asian society and not just the Afro-Asian Union (AFASU), which is only the awarding authority. Despite the relative difference between the conditions of the award from one sector to another, they are united by the quest to discover people who have actually developed and real talents by relying on efficiency principles, transparency and objective standards in nominations.
Mr. Anan Al-Jalali, Honorary President of the Union and Head of the Sustainable Development Sector at the Union, added that he has known Professor / MR Mohamed Farouk for a long time and knows about his constant renewal and follow-up of everything new in the world in the field of tourism technology. The AFASU Golden Award for Excellence and Development in Tourism Technology was designed to encourage creators, pioneers, innovators and technology users to develop the tourism sector and to honor those who use technology for the development of this sector. Professor Mr. Mohamed Farouk is one of the pioneers and owners of private sector companies that have made a breakthrough in the field of tourism technology. The award is not only for the private sector but can also be granted to government agencies, institutions, private sector companies and start-ups that are developing initiatives that work to employ modern technology in order to provide innovative solutions to global challenges and explore new opportunities for a better future.
Finally, Major General Hossam Badr El-Din, Executive Vice President of the Union, confirmed that the Afro-Asian Union is keen to commit to neutrality and transparency in arbitrating the “AFASU Gold Award”, according to scientific and objective foundations. Since its inception, the award has enjoyed a good reputation and high credibility, thanks to the accuracy of the nomination mechanism followed and the strictness of the adopted arbitration criteria and the integrity of its coordinators and members of its committees.
Also, at the ceremony, a number of honorary guests and experts in tourism and sustainable development spoke about the importance of highlighting and honoring distinguished people in all fields so that they can be role models for young people and beacons for future generations, as well as raising the morale of those honored.
